Stop Human Rights Abuses Now

Welcome to the Roll Back Amnesty Website

In 2007, Amnesty International made the headlines around the world not for what it was saying, but rather what was being said about it. The reason for this, was the organisation's controversial and divisive move to the adoption of a position on the issue of abortion - an issue which it had previously claimed the organisaton had no mandate for, nor claimed to desire one. Moreover, the organisation had also studiously sought to avoid getting involved in the abortion issue on either side of the debate for fear of getting sucked into a debate which would never be settled one way or the other, and certainly never to the satisfaction of the parties to the debate. The departure from this position has led to predictable and inevitable consequences, which can only be to the detriment of the organisation, and in turn, the very vital work it does in protecting human rights around the world, every day.

As a result of these events, this website has been set up to act as a locus for members and recently resigned members of Amnesty International who sincerely believe that the organisation has made a fundamental moral and strategic error in pursuing the current course of action. All of us here at Roll Back Amnesty seek but one thing, the return of Amnesty International to its previous position of neutrality on the issue of abortion. As can be seen from our more expansive About Us page, we are not a pro-life lobby or pressure group, nor a religious group, but rather a pro-Amnesty International one, and that alone. Any and all members and former members of Amnesty International who seek to repair the damage done to Amnesty International are thus invited to contact us to discuss how they might get involved. Together, we will roll back Amnesty.
